From Ashes to Flight

In my jewelry piece entitled From Ashes to Flight, I cut the shape of a Simorgh that rises from the heart of my model, flies around the neck and then covers half of the face as the position of the eye matches the eye of the bird and the eye of the wearer. In this piece, I tried to make a painting that would dance around the body of a woman in the form of jewelry, merging my two areas of emphasis in painting and jewelry, two dimensions and three dimensions, public and private. Dancing figures are painted on the body of the bird. In some legends, the Simorgh plunges itself into flames to be consumed and reborn from its own ashes, a feature it shares with the Phoenix of western cultures. In my piece, the Simorgh rises from the heart of a woman, signifying the strength and efforts to gain freedom, flourishing from a heart burning for change.
